Prayer – Wed 28th April

The theme for the day: Longing for our homeland of heaven

Philippians 3:20

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.

I was in the queue for my COVID vaccination when this lady excitedly confessed to me how she longed for this jab to secure her summer holiday. She told me she couldn’t wait for her vaccine passport! This longing for the liberating jab in the arm of a tired post-COVID society for summer holidays stands in contrast to the struggling nations where people long for oxygen as COVID crisis chokes people.

As Christians, a.k.a heavenly citizens, what is our longing?

God offers an exciting life on earth to glorify Him to those who have made Jesus as Lord, but their ‘groaning’ is to see Jesus return.  We are offered the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance and the Bible as our ‘Immigration manual’. The same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead is for all who repent and believe Him, unleashing the supernatural realm. We are called to be ambassadors of Christ in a foreign land and live with a Kingdom mentality. This sets us apart with Kingdom principles permeating every aspect of our lives. We live for Jesus, our Delight and gather treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20,21) as we listen and execute His will.

“During our pilgrimage in a foreign land, we must battle the temptation to settle down and fully integrate into the host society… Only when we finally enter the homeland of heaven will we really be able to say, ‘Ah, home at last!’ ” [2].

Activity:

Cherish the costly sacrifice of Jesus for us, be renewed in gratefulness and the joy of surrender to Him.

Jesus paid it all

Prophetic Focus:

2 Cor 5:14, 15

14 … Christ’s love controls us. … Christ died for all, … that we have all died to our old life. 15 … so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ …

God gives us a revelation of Christ’s love for us.

Christ’s love propels our desire and moves and makes us sacrificial.

His new life opens us to Christ’s Kingdom and Holy Spirit power.

Prayer Focus:

“O for men and women who have such a longing for God that everything else gets pushed away” -Tozer

Check out this hymn and the inspiring life behind:

Meditate on Psalm 63:1-5

O God, … I earnestly search for you.

…You satisfy me more than the richest feast …

Pray:

  1. The Lord affirm your identity as heavenly citizen, follow Christ no matter what and experience the power of His Word.
  2. For a spiritual passion ignited in you and TVCC folks for God’s Kingdom ushered through us in our communities and nation.
  3. For supernatural intervention into the needy situations personally, CG, and church family (check FB Prayer group).
