This week we have another opportunity to pray together, as Claire Harrison will broadcasting live on Facebook at 12:30pm.
This Wednesday’s notes have been prepared by Sue O’Higgins.
Today we are going to cover a lot of ground prayerfully and physically. You may want to consider undertaking the morning’s section as a whole family. I think that children and young people will enjoy it and that the Holy Spirit will plant some seeds in them for their futures.
Before we start I am going to ask you to pull out from your bookshelves and cars (or wherever else you may store them) any A-Z maps/books, road maps, OS/OL maps or atlases that are in your possession.
We are going to start the day with worship. Often, we lift our hands as an expression of openness to God and as an offering of ourselves to Him. Today, I am going to ask you to kick off your shoes and socks or slippers, and to offer Him your feet. Now spend some time worshipping God in a way that you most enjoy…keeping in mind the Scripture below.
‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;’
‘If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow -to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to hold fast to Him -then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. Every place where you set your foot will be yours:’ Deuteronomy 11:22-24a
‘I will give you every place where you set your foot,’ Joshua 1:3a
I am very conscious of not taking Scripture out of context, and that both of the above quotes are concerning a young Israel moving into geographically promised land. However, as a prophetic woman, I am capturing the spirit of these words and sensing that God wants us to boldly (almost audaciously) reclaim land, cities and territory that have become occupied by world forces that are not godly. A prayerful, effective way of doing so is by physically walking on that land and claiming it back for Jesus. Naturally, there are limitations as to where and how far we can walk…..hence the maps!
Worship has a wonderful way of softening our spirits and opening us up to the leading of the Holy Spirit. I would like to ask you now to take any one of your maps (or one per person) and open it out on the floor. If it’s an atlas or book you may want to open it onto any page. It doesn’t matter if it’s full of sea or desert or mountains or a huge city. You will have heard the Holy Spirit correctly.
Now walk all over the map (every inch!) and use our initial Scripture to make godly declarations such as:
“Teesside belongs to the Lord”
“I speak to every ship that sails on this ocean and call your sailors and passengers into a living walk with Jesus”
“In the Name of Jesus, I speak to you, tiny mountain/desert/island communities and declare that you belong to the Lord God.”
If you’re unsteady on your feet, please sit, put the map on the floor and just lift your feet over it (you may also want to do this if you’re using a phone!)
Remember to join Claire at 12.30 on the Tees Valley Community Church Facebook page for LIVE prayer.
“There has never been a spiritual awakening in any country or locality that did not begin in united prayer”. This quote is from a talk by a famous Baptist Minister called Dr. J Edwin Orr (1912-1987). The 10-minute video below is taken from his lecture “The Role of Prayer in Spiritual Awakening”. The quality of production isn’t great but if you want to stir an excitement in yourself, listen on….
(please start at 16 minutes in…thank you)
We have just spent half an hour on Facebook in united prayer. We have been joined by folk from other churches and nations.
Choose one, and spend some time specifically interceding for and praying a blessing on that fellowship or country.
Return to your morning’s map and try to find out one fact about that area which captures your interest. It may be its nature, geography, geology, people, art, industry…anything. Remember our first Scripture of the day: God has an interest in everything about His globe!
I would like you look at your feet and pray as follows:
“Father God, is there anywhere new that you would like me to place my feet so as to take ground for You?”
If you feel that you struggle to hear God’s voice in response to such a prayer, you may want to visit my prayer blog where there’s a whole entry on hearing God’s voice: http://suesprayer.blogspot.com/2016_05_22_archive.html
Would you like to again return to this morning’s map and spend some time praying over issues surrounding the Covid19 virus which may have affected that place. Suggested areas for prayer might be:
- Wisdom for that government (local or national) in dealing with the crisis
- Protection over inhabitants of that area
- Christians in that area; that they will be a blessing to their communities and shine for Jesus
