Prayer – Wednesday 3rd February

1 Samuel 7 v 12

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer saying “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”

Today is about putting a stake in the ground, reflecting and if you feel prompted to by the Holy Spirit, realigning.

During this prolonged season of lockdown and coronavirus it is easy to be tossed around by the “storm,” blown this way and that from one day to the next. It’s an incredibly emotional season for everyone on so many different levels. So, how do we navigate the storm and not be blown this way and that when the wind and waves are so strong and constant?

Today is about building an Ebenezer which literally means “stone of help.” It is a tangible and powerful reminder to us of God’s power, protection and help in times of need. It is an anchor in the storm that boldly declares  “Thus far the Lord has brought us.”

Give Thanks:

When the news is all doom and gloom and the general state of the nation is very low, it is easy to forget the good things that God has done. But, by bringing them to memory and reflecting on them, we remind ourselves that God is an ever present help in times of trouble. That we can lift our eyes to the hills and know that our help comes form the Maker of Heaven and earth and that He ALONE is faithful.

David says in the Psalms “I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

So I would like us to take the time to write out where God has helped us this year, where we have found ourselves protected, provided for and known His faithfulness in our lives.

I want us to SEE what God has done and be reminded, keeping God always before us. This will not only set us up with a thankful heart it will also keep us expectant and excited about tomorrow and steady in the storms yet to come, for we know the God who has helped us so far.

After we’ve done this, as a prophetic statement, I would like us to build an Ebenezer; You can do this however you like, but make sure it is in a place where you can see it every day and  you are reminded “Thus far the Lord has brought you” and that there is hope for today!

Share your story:

Lastly, stories are great ways to spread faith in others, if you feel able to write about some of the stones in your Ebenezer please do this! Let someone else know today, on social media, over text or call someone to encourage them!

Let’s cause others to rise up in faith and keep their eyes on God at this time.

Also, if you want to post any of your Ebenezer’s designs for those of you who are arty (or not) feel free!
